UMASS DARTMOUTH | SPRING 2018
For my university capstone project I explored contemporary issues surrounding constitutionally guaranteed rights in the U.S. I researched public debate and legal information pertaining to students’ right to free speech on public university campuses, and to a much lesser extent, 2nd Amendment gun rights and mass school shootings. I attempted to unify these inquiries and visual responses under the banner “Student Citizen”, a faux student rights organization that was responsible for the “Yellow Pill Project” and “Triggered” campaigns.
I do not necessarily agree with all of the opinions I put forth in this work. I am constantly evolving on these issues, and much of my analysis and opinion has changed or become more nuanced.
YELLOW PILL PROJECT
With a name parodying the alt-right co-opting of the Wachowski’s “Red-Pill”, I had hoped to offer people true disillusionment on the campus free speech conversation. I aimed to advocate that people protect the general right to free speech, for everyone’s ability to both speak and speak against that/those they find offensive. I also wanted to educate peers about the strict, and arguably unconstitutional, free speech policies at UMass Dartmouth.

TRIGGERED
The Triggered campaign was my response to the movement of anti-gun/anti-shooting activists mobilized and spotlit after the Parkland FL Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
